日前林書豪的辮子髮型' '128889髮型遭前NBA球星肯亞' '104502肯亞馬丁（Kenyon Martin）開玩笑進而觸碰敏感種族歧視問題，在網路上引起軒然大波。近日肯亞馬丁正式錄製道歉影片並刪除相關文章，表示為自己無心的言論負責。而在此議題還熱燒中的同時，一名美國服飾品牌Banana Republic的黑人員工也跳出來指控，自己因為辮子頭遭到店經理的歧視。
據The Cut網站報導，Destiny Tompkins是任職於紐約州白原市Westchester Mall裡Banana Republic的員工，她表示日前白人店經理指控她的辮子頭對店鋪形象來說過於「蓬頭垢面」，對品牌而言並不是一個適當的髮型。Destiny Tompkins透露自己當下有適著解釋黑人女性是為了避免損傷和乾燥問題的原因才會綁這樣的髮型，但店經理卻建議她應該使用乳油木果油。「經理說如果我不換髮型，他們就不讓我排班。我認為這一切真是噁心的、令人無法接受的歧視。」
Banana Republic對此指控發表官方聲明，表示他們正對事件進行調查，「我們無法容忍公司裡有歧視問題存在，為顧客和員工打造一個具包容性的環境一直是我們的宗旨。」品牌發言人表示。
其實辮子頭不是第一次引起風波，Marc Jacobs在2017春夏時裝周上就讓模特而綁著辮子頭出場，也因為秀上大部分是白人模特兒，所以被指控「文化挪用（cultural appropriation）」。當時小馬哥特別強硬澄清，「為何這些人不批評直髮的有色人種？這些狹隘思想令人難過。」但這樣的解釋依然讓他持續受到網友批評。
